Join us for Hanami (花見) – flower viewing – as we gather under 100, breathtaking, Akebono cherry trees in full blossom at David Lam Park. Everyone is welcome to picnic, play and celebrate our beautiful city during this stunning start of Spring. We have art activities for all ages like origami, felt crafts, block printing, and more.

Enjoy live music from 11AM-4PM 🎶 (see the lineup here.), art activities, explore our Haiku Exhibition, Poetry in Motion booth, workshops, yoga in the park, and more. Grab a bite from our food trucks and food vendors or visit our sponsor booths for delicious surprises.

This year, dive into BreakOUT, a free interactive activity! Grab headphones at the BreakOut tent and let your Cherry Blossom Guide lead you through a movement activity with a story to spark your imagination.

We have our celebrated Haiku Exhibition featuring a partnership between art and poetry. A Poetry in Motion booth, Paper Fan Decorating, a Wishing Tree, Drum Workshops, Yoga in the park, workshops and so much more. Discover our Pink Bench Conversation Corner, where new friendships blossom.

Location

The Big Picnic takes place at David Lam Park (1300 Pacific Blvd, Vancouver, BC V6Z 2Y1).

Parking is limited at David Lam Park. We strongly encourage using public transit, walking, or biking to reach the park. Here’s how to get there:

  1. Exit Yaletown-Roundhouse Station and head southeast on Davie St toward Mainland St.
  2. Turn left onto Pacific Blvd.
  3. Continue straight on Pacific Blvd until you reach David Lam Park.

It’s a short walk, approximately 4-7 minutes, from Yaletown-Roundhouse Station to David Lam Park.

Experience an array of engaging activities at The Big Picnic! Our event boasts an exciting lineup of community partners offering interactive workshops, art classes, and musical play spaces. Dive into a world of creativity where you can play games, unleash your inner artist, learn captivating dances, and drum to the rhythm of your heart!

BreakOUT

BreakOUT is an immersive audio-enhanced 20-minute movement piece transmitted through headphones as a live event. It is a fun group movement experience, or communal dance, while you focus on listening to the gentle prompts of choreographer Kat Single-Dain’s scripted score with additional audio elements. Free and fun for all ages!

Start Times: 11:00AM, 12:00PM, 1:00PM, 2:00PM.

Drum Workshops

Red Fox Healthy Living Society: Join us for a vibrant cultural experience with the Red Fox Living Society: Drum & Pow Wow Dance Group. From 11AM-2PM, immerse yourself in the rhythms of the Red Fox as young participants discover the rich history of drumming and singing.

Daughters of the Drum: From 2PM-4PM, don’t miss the enchanting beats of the Daughters of the Drum, an Aboriginal women’s hand drum group. Engage in their workshop and embrace the opportunity for audience participation with hand drums.

How to Prepare Yourself for The Big Picnic

Here are some tips to prepare yourself for a wonderful day at the event:

  • The event is rain or shine. Please dress appropriately for the weather.
  • We encourage everyone to bring a blanket to picnic on. There is limited outdoor seating.
  • Parking is limited. We strongly encourage using public transit, walking, or biking.
  • All pets, including working guide and service dogs, must be leashed.
  • This event is wheelchair accessible. Please be aware that the vendor tents are situated on the flat grassy field.
  • Have fun & snap some photos – don’t forget to use #VanCherryBlossomFest and tag @vancherryblossomfest in your posts!
