🌲 Discover the Magnificent Trees of Thornton Park
Thornton Park, nestled in the heart of Vancouver, boasts a remarkable array of trees, each with its own unique story to tell. Egan Davis, with his wealth of expertise, will lead you on an enlightening journey through this urban arboreal oasis.
While we won’t list all of the different trees you’ll encounter during this walk, rest assured that Thornton Park is home to a stunning assortment of species. From the grandeur of a colossal cherry tree to the elegance of a Caucasian wingnut, the princess tree’s regal presence to the northern catalpa’s distinctive charm, and many more captivating specimens.
🏞 A Glimpse into Thornton Park’s History
Notably, Thornton Park witnessed a fascinating transformation in the 1990s and early 2000s, not unlike the changing seasons of the trees it now cradles. During this period, a restoration effort took root, paralleling the age of the Woman’s Monument within the park’s boundaries.
Thornton Park has a unique historical significance, once serving as a Canadian railway terminal park for CN. Designed and still used as a meeting and resting place at the end of the line, it follows a theme many railways have adopted to enhance the landscape along their routes.
