11:00AM – Opening

11:30AM – Vancouver Okinawa Taiko

Vancouver Okinawa Taiko has been performing in numerous festivals, charity functions, and anniversary events for nearly two decades. The group’s mission is to promote and preserve Okinawan-style drum-dancing Eisa and to share Okinawan cultural heritage. Its membership includes a diverse range of generations to represent grassroots folk art. They aim to convey the Okinawan spirit through the rhythm of its drums and the harmony of its dance.

 

11:50AM – Phil Puxley

Phil Puxley, a captivating singer-songwriter, blends bluegrass, country, folk, and rock into his original songs. Based in Vancouver, BC since the mid-2000s, Phil’s musical journey evolved after a soul-searching hiatus in 2013, leading him to embrace music wholeheartedly. He’s garnered acclaim, including four BCCMA banjo player of the year awards, and contributed to several Canadian country radio hits. In 2022, he released his debut single, “The Hole in the Mountain,” marking a new chapter in his career. Phil’s music, infused with a sense of adventure and love for good times, resonates with audiences. Mudfoot is a Zimbabwean Marimba duo featuring local percussionists Sangito Bigelow and Chris Couto of Kutapira.

 

 

 

 

 

 

1:15PM – DJ O Show

Orene Askew, known as DJ O Show, infuses every event with her dynamic energy and expertise. Specializing in hip hop and R&B, she keeps the dance floor buzzing with her curated beats and infectious passion. With her friendly demeanor and professional approach, DJ O Show collaborates closely with clients to tailor unique playlists for weddings, birthdays, corporate events, and more, ensuring unforgettable experiences from Vancouver to Toronto and beyond.

As an Afro-Indigenous member of the Squamish Nation, DJ O Show draws inspiration from her diverse background, infusing her work with cultural teachings and pride. Her influence extends beyond the DJ booth, as she’s an accomplished speaker, former Squamish Nation Council member, and has shared stages with renowned figures like Kevin Hart and Russell Peters.

Recipient of prestigious awards including the 2022 International Indigenous Hip Hop Award for DJ of the Year, DJ O Show continues to captivate audiences and make a lasting impact on the music industry and beyond.
