Meet Douglas Justice:

Douglas Justice is Associate Director, Horticulture & Collections at UBC Botanical Garden. He teaches in UBC’s Landscape Architecture program and in the Garden’s Horticulture Training Program. Douglas’s early passion for plants led him into tropicals, then outdoor plants, nursery work and gardening, then degrees in horticulture and botany, which spurred him to pursue a career in teaching and public garden management. He wrote the handbook Ornamental Cherries in Vancouver with the help of Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival volunteers, and among other horticultural writing, authored the text for the iOS mobile app, Vancouver Trees. A volunteer with the Cherry Blossom Festival since its inception, Douglas first became interested in ornamental cherries as a teenager, wandering Vancouver’s then much less-crowded, cherry-lined streets.

This event is made possible with support from RIZE.

About Tree Talks & Walks

Tree Talks & Walks are guided tours led by local experts that focus on not just the cherry tree but the other various trees that make up our urban ecosystem. It’s an opportunity to explore Vancouver’s neighbourhoods and parks, to better understand how our trees play a vital role in our city, and to learn about the history of the land we inhabit. We invite you to take a moment out of your day to pause and appreciate the natural beauty all around us.
