Sargent Hybrid Cherry. Mystery trees, widely planted by the City of Vancouver around 1980, particularly on the northeast side of Vancouver. The trees exhibit the vigor, comparatively stout twigs, sticky bud scales, corymbose inflorescences and whitish leaf backs of P. sargentii. However, the leaves are doubly serrate and endowed with sizable teeth, and the 4-cm-wide flowers are pale pink to milk white—characteristics suggestive of hybridization with other Japanese cherry species.
