Temari Making Workshop with TEMARIMO – Temari was once a traditional toy given at New Years from parents to their children. Over time, the practice has evolved into a detailed artform. You will learn the basic techniques of how to make design on Temari (ball). Using nature-friendly materials, TEMARIMO’S goal and ambition is to bring beauty  joy into people’s lives through the centuries-old art of Temari.  Like each well made, delicate thread ball, a Temari is symbolic of wishing its recipient a full and well-rounded life.

Register to participate in the Saturday workshop here.

English Rakugo Show & Workshop by Okeichan and Shinobue Performance by Keiko

Rakugo is a traditional Japanese comic storytelling. The stories usually came from humorous incidents from daily life in the Edo period (about 400 years ago). OKEICHAN will tell Rakugo in English on a small special stage only using small props and gestures. She believes laughter is universal, and laughter makes us all feel happy.

The Japanese flute known as Shinobue reverberates with tradition going back hundreds of years. Keiko’s repertoire includes Japanese traditional folk songs as well as Western compositions. It will be Keiko’s honor and joy to spread the sounds of this special instrument, sounds that resonate nostalgically for all Japanese people, sounds which she hope will equally resonate with the people of Canada.
