The festival brings you the new 2013 SakuraB bento box lunch to celebrate the return of spring!

Master chef Hidekazu Tojo and three other top local Japanese chefs from: Shuraku Sake Bar & Bistro, Zen Japanese Restaurant, & Toshi Sushi have created a new SakuraB for 2013. See below for more delicious descriptions of this sensual feast!

Keep the label! Support the festival and pre-order the bento box below for $20 and remember not to throw away the bento box label because with every purchase you will be able to redeem a free appetizer at participating restaurants.

Pick up is only from 11:00am to 1:30pm inside the Burrard SkyTrain Station at Cherry Jam Downtown. Please remember to bring your receipt or give it to a friend to pick-up so we can verify your order.

On-site. Contributing chefs from Tojo's Restaurant and Zen Japanese Restaurant will offer onsite food demonstrations between 11am and noon at this festival kick-off event, hosted by Founder and Chief Culinary Ambassador of Vancouver Foodie Tours, Michelle Ng and followed by the annual concert until 1:30pm. There will be very limited rush orders only starting from 11am.

Born in post-war Japan in Kagoshima, as a young man Tojo honed his skills for selecting the best and freshest fish. The first Tojo's Restaurant was opened in 1988 at 777 West Broadway and has since moved to the 1133 Broadway location where he continues to cater to an expanding community of international visitors and Vancouverites.

Sakura Roll (Ocean Wise). Seasoned tuna and zucchini tempura roll in egg crêpe and ume infused pickled daikon.

Jalepeño Wraps. Crispy spring roll with prawn, ling cod pâté, shiitake mushrooms and fresh jalapeño peppers.


Nobu Ochi has been creating virtual art by day as a graphic designer and edible art by night as a member of a highly skilled team at Vancouver's first ocean-wise resturant.

Teriyaki Salmon Pâté. Pâté of wild sockeye salmon steamed with burdock roots.

With over than ten years of experience in KAPPO restaurant in Japan before landing in Vancouver, Yoshinobu Ando is now the Executive Chef at Shuraku Sake Bar & Bistro in dowtown.

Toshi was born and raised near the birth place of sushi - the famous Tsukiji fish market in Tokyo. Having always been in love with cooking, Toshi has been making Japanese home-style food for four decades. He briefly retired 10 years ago but quickly got tired of playing golf everyday. Returning to his first love, cooking, Toshi opened Toshi Sushi, a well-loved gem of a neighbourhood restaurant on 16th near Main.
